Unbox Token Gating through Unbox Studio offers seamless, secure token-gating capabilities, empowering projects and communities to control access based on token ownership.

alt text

With Unbox Studio, anyone can set up token gating to create exclusive experiences, manage membership tiers, or restrict content access, all tailored to their unique requirements. This feature enables project leaders and community managers to easily gate entry based on verified token ownership, automating access decisions and streamlining user engagement while preserving the decentralized ethos of Web3. Unbox Studio’s token-gating tools provide flexibility and control, fostering stronger community connections and enhancing member exclusivity.

Understanding Token Gating

Concept of Token Gating

What is Token Gating?

Token gating is a method used to control access to digital content, services, or features by requiring users to possess specific identity tokens. These tokens act as digital keys that authenticate a user’s identity and grant access to exclusive areas, functionalities, features, or communities.

How does Token Gating Work?

Token gating verifies the presence of required identity tokens to grant or deny access to gated content, services, or features. This process ensures that only authorized users can access restricted areas or functionalities.

Technical Background

Explanation of Tokens

Tokens can be either identity or currency. Currency tokens are interchangeable, while identity tokens represent unique assets or rights.

Role Permission

Role permissions are managed through identity tokens or multiple identity tokens. Each role is associated with specific identity tokens that grant access to corresponding functionalities or features. An onboarding QR code is provided to facilitate the distribution and assignment of these identity tokens. Before distributing identity token via the QR code, it’s essential to mint the onboarding distributor.

Distributors for Identity Token Distribution

Distributors are used to efficiently distribute identity tokens within our system:

  • Onboarding Distributors: When creating roles, an onboarding distributor is automatically generated. This distributor facilitates the distribution of identity tokens to users assigned to these roles, ensuring access to designated functionalities or features.

  • Manual Creation: Distributors can also be manually created for specific usage or scenarios. This flexibility allows studio’s users or developers to tailor token distribution processes as needed.

  • Minting Tokens: Before distributing any identity or currency tokens, the token in distributor must be minted. This process involves creating a specified amount of identity tokens that distributors will distribute and sign it afterwards.

  • Onboarding QR Code: A provided onboarding QR code is linked to the onboarding distributor. It simplifies user onboarding by distributing identity token, ensuring efficient token distribution to new users.

This setup ensures that identity tokens are distributed effectively and securely across roles within our system, enhancing access control and user management capabilities.

Benefits

  • Security: Identity tokens enhance security by validating user identities.
  • Decentralization: Token gating decentralizes access control, reducing dependency on central authorities.
  • Transparency: The use of tokens and APIs provides transparency in access management processes.

Applications

Token gating finds application in various scenarios:

  • Membership Access: Restricting access to exclusive memberships or communities.
  • Content Gating: Controlling access to premium content or services.
  • Event Entry: Managing entry to events based on token ownership.
  • Software Features: Granting access to specific features or functionalities based on token possession.
  • Any other gated access: Any scenario where access control is required based on token ownership.
